Challenge: A company based in Portland, Oregon, Schoolhouse Electric got their start replicating vintage light fixtures. This has grown into a full line of home accessories and a brick and mortar that offers a wide range of furniture, home decor and lifestyle items. My first project with Schoolhouse, I was tasked with getting a firm grasp on the Schoolhouse voice for quick turnaround on brief e-commerce product descriptions for their holiday-specific offerings.
Solution: The product descriptions were limited to one to two sentences for most products, though a few key items needed more detailed two- to three-sentence descriptions. It was important to let the images do the talking while providing the less obvious design or production details that would appeal to the Schoolhouse customer. Most importantly, the quick turnaround on these required the need for minimal edits or adjustment of voice. Basically, I had to get it right the first time.
